Justin graduated from West Ottawa High School in 2017 and is studying Communications at Grand Valley State University.
He was recommended for a Promise Scholarship by his mentor at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Holland.
Justin’s goal to earn a bachelor’s degree has been shaped by his life experience. Facing severe financial hardship, Justin’s family moved to the Holland area during the middle of his freshman year. Right down the street was the Holland Boys and Girls Club which Justin joined.
He soon began to flourish at the Club. He reflects that he “became socially healthy, made more friends, and found great role models.” In addition, Justin improved his grades and began dreaming of something he never could have imagined before, a college education.
In addition to the last-dollar H/Z Promise Scholarship, Justin was recognized with the Foundation’s Kaminski Family Scholarship.
What did receiving the H/Z Promise Scholarship mean to Justin?
To all his donors Justin says, “Thank you so much for the scholarships! I wouldn’t have been able to afford college but now I can. It’s such a blessing and a dream come true!”
Justin’s advice to high school students:
“Take your struggles and use them to push you forward. The blessings will come if you do that.”
