A graduate of Zeeland East High School, Micah will be seeking a degree from Michigan State University. She will be pursuing a degree in animal science/livestock industries which may lead eventually to a career in the agriculture industry or as a veterinarian. MSU has a unique program for this degree in conjunction with Lansing Community College.
Micah was recommended to the Promise by counselors at both the Careerline Tech Center and Zeeland East High School. She is known for her resiliency, work ethic and leadership skills. During her junior year, she began stepping out of her comfort zone and was elected to the CTC program’s Future Farmer of America’s president, becoming the FFA Region V’s Vice President for Michigan.
Micah says “Ever since I was a young girl, my family always pushed for me to attend college, but I didn’t actually start believing that I could attend my dream school (MSU), until the beginning of my junior year. I decided at the start of my junior year, that I was going work as hard as I could to get the grades needed for MSU.”
Micah’s goals include becoming “the greatest version of me possible.” To Micah, this means “cultivating myself into a better leader, student, friend, daughter and the list goes on and on.”
According to Micah, the Promise Scholarship represents “far more than just money. For me it represents encouragement, hope, and opportunity for a better tomorrow. I give my deepest appreciation to the HZ Promise donors, the Foundation, and everyone that helped make this scholarship available. I will forever be in awe of the generosity and support that I’ve received.”
Micah’s Advice for High School Students:
“Always go above and beyond what is expected of you, and never let anyone tell you that you can’t accomplish your goal. If you are pursuing an educational goal that you’re truly passionate about, then eventually you’ll achieve it with hard work and dedication.”
