We’d love you to join STORIES as a writer, photographer or illustrator. We love hearing new voices. Here is how you can contribute.

FEATURES

The features section is where we cover news topics, mainly from around SOAS, in an in-depth, informative way. These stories involve lots of interviews and research. That can sound off-putting, but it’s actually a lot of fun! By writing a features story, you’ll quickly become well acquainted with SOAS politics and how the university works, if you weren’t before (which is not an obstacle). We are welcome to any ideas covering stories around SOAS or London.

To ask for a story assignment, pitch an idea, or ask for more information, email Atika: featuresatstories@gmail.com

CULTURE

The cultures section is our open space for articles exploring cultures at SOAS, London, and around the world. You might study anthropology, art history, music or a language, or you might just have a special interest or experience in a particular topic or area of the world. We’re interested in topics from Arabic rap and street art in the Middle East to Ethiopian jazz and contemporary art in China. While we don’t do reviews, we are interested in articles exploring larger themes and issues through current films, exhibitions, concerts and more. If you’re interested in something, we probably will be as well.

Write to Tim Romain: cultureatstories@gmail.com

ESSAYS

The essays section is our space for personal explorations and opinion essays. While opinion pieces can explore current events and hot topics in politics, we are not looking for policy papers; we prefer that these events are approached through a more personal lens. What do these events mean to you? How do our identities and experiences shape the way that we view the world? Personal essays can range from your perspectives on mental health and gender to race and feminism. However, they don’t necessarily need to explore these lofty topics. You could also write about, for example, what it means to be an international student in the UK now. If it’s just a vague idea, no problem — we’ll help you to flesh it out.

To write an essay, talk to Ella Linskens: essaysatstories@gmail.com

PHOTOGRAPHY

To join our pool of photographers who we will call on to help illustrate articles, email WS Himasha: photographyatstories@gmail.com

We’re also fond of photo essays, so if you have a collection of interesting photos on a certain theme or cultural experience, talk to Mel Plant: storiesatsoas@gmail.com

ILLUSTRATIONS

We love illustrations and other types of art — we’re often looking for artists to help us illustrate essays, poems and other pieces of writing. If you’d be interested in contributing, email Mel Plant: storiesatsoas@gmail.com
