The Killer Tornadoes of 2024
Every year, there are thousands of tornadoes across the globe. Tragically, some of those tornadoes cost people their lives. During 2024, six people have been killed by tornadoes.
Graceville — Cottonwood — Pansey Tornado
On January 9, a significant, high-end EF2 tornado started southwest of Graceville, Florida, and move northeast, directly hitting Cottonwood, Alabama, before lifting near Pansey, Alabama. The tornado caused one fatality, just to the northeast of Cottonwood, Alabama. Along September Road, the tornado struck and caused the complete destruction of a double-wide mobile home. A person inside the mobile home was killed by the tornado.
Claremont — Catawba Tornado
On January 9, an extremely fast-moving tornado struck southeast of Claremont and east and northeast of Catawba, North Carolina. The tornado’s average forward speed was over 77 miles per hour. As the tornado struck between the towns, it hit a mobile home park along Cindi Lane and Evening Drive. Here, a single-wide mobile home was rolled, killing one person and injuring four others.
Kedung Wonokerto Tornado
On February 4, a strong tornado struck the village of Kedung Wonokerto, in Indonesia. A person was killed when the tornado completely destroyed and swept away a zinc shop. This tornado officially has no formal rating on any tornado intensity scale.
Logan County, Ohio Tornado
On March 14, a strong tornado struck the community of Orchard Island and the town of Lakeview in Logan County, Ohio. Three people were killed, however, information directly pertaining to the deaths have not been officially released yet.
There have been no other killer tornadoes during 2024, thus far. This article will be updated if further tornadic deaths occur during 2024.
