U.S. airdrops over the Gaza Strip — U.S. Military (CENTCOM)

Unless you keep up with the ongoing wars across the world, the Gaza Strip Airdrops may be brand new information for you. So now I present to you, some true modern-day history, summarized so you can learn and understand it.

Brief Background

Starting in March 2024, amid the Israel–Hamas war, the United States, Jordan, Egypt, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands conducted a series of humanitarian airdrops in the Gaza Strip, which was in the process of being invaded by Israel, following the Hamas-led invasion on Israel back in October 2023.

As of 8 March, over 123,000 meals have been airdropped across the Gaza Strip.

Timeline

2 March — The First Airdrop (Mawasi)

The first set of airdrops occurred on 2 March between 3–5 PM (Gaza time). During those two hours, C-130s from the United States Air Force and the Royal Jordan Air Force airdropped 38,000 meals across the Gaza Strip coastline. A U.S. official told Reuters the airdrops occurred in the town of Mawasi in the Gaza Strip.

5 March — The Second Airdrop (Northern Gaza City)

The second set of airdrops occurred three days later on 5 March at 2:30 PM (Gaza time). Three C-130s from the United States Air Force and C-130s from the Royal Jordan Air Force airdropped 36,800 meals across northern coastline of Gaza City in the Gaza Strip.

7 March — The Third Airdrop (Northern Gaza City)

The third set of airdrops occurred on 7 March at 3:20 PM (Gaza time). C-130s from the United States Air Force and Royal Jordan Air Force, with support from the United States Army, airdropped 38,000 meals across the northern part of Gaza City in the Gaza Strip.

8 March — The Fourth Airdrop (al-Shati refugee camp)

The fourth set of airdrops occurred on 8 March. A C-130 from the United States Air Force along with the Royal Jordan Air Force dropped 11,500 meals across the northern part of Gaza City in the Gaza Strip.

Tragically, during the airdrop, a container’s parachute failed to open, causing the humanitarian aid container to plummet to the ground, where it impacted, killing five people and injuring ten others. The BBC reported the container originated from a C-17, but it is unknown which country airdropped it.

9 March — The Fifth Airdrop (Northern Gaza City)

The fifth set of airdrops occurred on 9 March. C-130s from the United States Air Force, along with soldiers from the United States Army, airdropped 41,400 meals and 23,000 bottles of water across the northern part of Gaza City in the Gaza Strip.

As this is an ongoing historical event, the article will be updated in the future if more information becomes available or if further airdrops occur.
