Mental Health in the Arctic
North in Focus (NIF) is a non-profit organization that promotes mental wellness, reduces the stigma that surrounds mental health, and empowers individuals to reach out for support. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death for youth in Canada, with rates up to 40 times higher for some Northern populations compared to their Southern counterparts.
NIF addresses this issue through week-long workshops for Northern youth. We combine mental health education with art and recreation to build awareness, support, and leadership from within the community. Comprising four core individuals — Gabrielle, Eva, Patrick, and Ashley — NIF incorporates Northern perspectives and history to maximize the impact of the program.
