The getting into Grad school GIF

I was a lot more Ilana than Abbi though.

Somehow I fell into one of those Facebook rabbit holes where I find myself scrolling through my profile, months back, looking at my own narcissistic biz. I did happen upon this GIF I posted. Since I almost never post GIFs to Facebook (I save the good stuff for Twitter), I figured this must have been a really good post.

It was the day I found out that I got accepted into grad school. And since I wasn’t sure if I was going to stay at my job or go to school, I had to be somewhat vague. Plus, I really hate Facebook.

I remember that morning David and I had driven into the city for work. I had to take the number 10 bus down from Chinatown to meet him at his office. After checking in with reception, I made my way over to the creative enclave where David and his team work. He was just wrapping up a project, so I sat in an empty chair adjacent to him, spinning around slowly and scrolling through my phone.

I got a notification.

A congratulations you’ve been accepted into California College of Arts email notification.

I stood up and exclaimed, “I just got into grad school!” David hugged me, and I don’t remember if David’s coworkers clapped for me, but it makes the story better if they did, so let’s say they did.

I did that dance though for like two hours. That part is totally real.
