Real Wedding: Erin and Keith

We are super excited to share these gorgeous southwestern wedding pics from Erin and Keith’s wedding in Santa Fe. Totally loving the mix of color shots and black & white shots — really taps into the soul of the location, bride and groom’s style, and the overall wedding love evident in every picture…

Inspiration: Our inspiration comes from the photojournalists and visual documentarians of the past…. Henri Cartier Bresson, Eugene Richards, Sebastiao Salgado, Sally Mann, Larry Towell. We love that we are able to retain medium format film photography as part of our approach, as it keeps us rooted in the tradition of fine art photography and lends a nostalgic feel to our images.

Philosophy/Style: We are former newspaper photojournalists who have taken our love for telling stories through pictures and have applied it to weddings. Our clients hire us because we are able to quietly and unobtrusively capture real moments as they unfold throughout the day. We mix vintage medium format film cameras with digital cameras in order to create an artful, emotional photo essay of our clients’ wedding day.

Bride’s Inspiration: Keith and I both went into the wedding planning process very open-minded. The world was our oyster! We live in Illinois, and decided early on that we wanted to do a destination wedding. We still wanted a lot of family and friends to attend, so we ruled out anything requiring a passport. Keith and I had traveled to the Southwest a few times and loved the desert, the endless sky, and the FOOD! While we had been to Silver City, NM, we had never been to Santa Fe, but we both independently put it in the running for our wedding location. We flew out for a weekend of venue appointments saying that if we didn’t love it, we’d start over. We loved it.

Bride’s Favorite Moments: My dad’s toast — he is an excellent speaker and had the whole place laughing and crying. Not a dry eye in the house. Keith’s dad’s toast — Keith’s dad is not one to typically give a speech, but he felt inspired to here and delivered a short, simple, and poignant message. It was also so great to get to set the soundtrack for the day. I walked in to the ceremony to Moon River on the Spanish guitar, and the bridal party reception entrance song, Keith and my first dance song, and the songs we danced to with our parents all carried a lot of meaning to us.

Bride’s Advice to other Brides: Have the wedding that you and your fiancé want to have! We were so fortunate that our families were both very supportive of us doing what we wanted, and not worrying about what anyone else may want. So we drug everybody across the country and put toys on the tables and ate ribs at the rehearsal dinner and it was absolutely perfect. It may not have been everyone else’s style, but it was 100% ours.

Early on, someone told me to splurge on the three things most important to us, and then budget the rest of the pieces to stay within the overall budget. To us, those things were the location, photographers, and open bar :).
