Flipside, an analysis firm, compared eight networks based on active users. Ethereum claimed the top spot with 15.4 million active addresses, closely trailed by Polygon, while Bitcoin lagged behind at 10.7 million.

The stats consider addresses with at least two transactions.

Blockchain networks with smart contracts are leading, driven by decentralized exchange (DEX) activity. For instance, on Ethereum, 2.3 million users (15%) engaged in DEX trades, while Avalanche saw 1.3 million (52%) involved.

Active user counts rose for Polygon, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism and Base, while Ethereum, Solana and Bitcoin witnessed decreases.

Ethereum’s user base has declined for the second consecutive year, dropping from 24.6 million in 2021 to the current 15.4 million.

Arbitrum exhibited the most significant growth, with a 5.7 times increase in its user base.

The major surge occurred in December, setting a daily transaction record of 5 million. The frenzy centered around ordinals, causing a network shutdown for several hours.
