Daniel is a meteorologist at Bay Area Air Quality @AirDistrict in San Francisco. Weather & air quality and is a storm chaser!

He can be found on Twitter or if you prefer over on Facebook

What was your most memorable weather event?

One event that stands out in particular for me was a severe weather outbreak on October 24, 2001, across the Midwest. This was a high-risk outlook day per SPC in a low-instability but the highly-dynamic environment. I was driving home from high school near Kalamazoo, Michigan when a gustnado went through with 100+ mph winds. I thought my car was going to be pushed off the road entirely while trees were coming down around me. The storm system left considerable damage not only in my area but in several states as well, and in typical Midwest fashion, it snowed the following day.

What is your favourite and least favourite type of weather?

Favorite: thunderstorms
Least favorite: freezing rain

If you weren’t a meteorologist, what would you most like to be?

This changes a lot but I think I would like to be a baker.

From a purely meteorological point of view, where would you most like to live?

Probably someplace along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, as over a short time there one can experience the full gamut of weather conditions.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Meteorology is an exciting and humbling field of work. I’ve been fortunate to have a career in the profession that I always wanted to be a part of, and it’s been very rewarding to have met so many colleagues and made enduring friendships within our community. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to work in air pollution meteorology and help draw attention to how our actions affect our environment and health on a daily basis.
