StorX Network FAQ: Your Guide to Node Rewards, AMA Sessions, and Mainnet Migration
Following our recent update on the node rewards improvement plan, we understand that our community has many questions. To ensure transparency and clarity, we have compiled a comprehensive FAQ addressing the most common queries. This FAQ aims to help you better understand the changes and what they mean for you as a valued member of the StorX Network.
FAQ
1. How do I unstake my StorX Storage Nodes?
A. The process for unstaking Nodes in the StorX Beta remains the same. For more details, you can visit the detailed article
2. How do I upgrade my StorX Storage Nodes?
A. We would provide step-by-step guidelines to upgrade your current nodes to mainnet.
3. How do I change my VPS Service Provider?
A. We have already taken this point into consideration, and we will soon send across step by step guidance for users to complete this process
4. Do I have to unstake and restake to move to the mainnet?
A. Users need not change the staking amount of their storage nodes; they just need to upgrade their nodes by following the step-by-step guidance provided.
5. What if my node is inactive, and I want to join the mainnet?
A. Inactive users would have a small window to upgrade their nodes to the mainnet. Once the upgrades of active users are completed, we will allow inactive node operators to upgrade their nodes to the mainnet. We will soon announce the roadmap for the upgrade to our community members.
6. When will the Storage Node rewards be revised?
A. Once the users have completed their mainnet upgrade, they will be eligible for storage node rewards.
7. What if I do not upgrade by Storage Node post 1 September?
A. Users have ample time to decide whether to join the mainnet and qualify for the revised rewards program. If the users decide not to upgrade the storage nodes, They can simply resign them post-1st September; once the cooling period is completed, the Staked amount will be credited to their address. Storage Nodes operators who do not upgrade will not receive storage rewards post-1st September
8. How will the revised rewards be credited into the Node Operator's account?
A. There is no change in the methods of claiming rewards.
9. What is the minimum amount of reputation required for storage nodes to earn storage rewards?
A. Under mainnet, the minimum reputation required for storage node operator is 1250 reputation.
10. After upgrading to the mainnet, how long would my storage nodes earn rewards?
A. If your node qualifies for all quality parameters storage node should start earning rewards from 1st month
11. What is the cooling off / Notice period for storage nodes to resign in the mainnet?
A. The cooling-off period for storage nodes to resign and claim staking tokens is one month from the resignation date.
12. What if the storage node exits without notice on the mainnet?
A. If the storage node exits without providing the one-month notice specified above, the user will not be able to claim the deposit of the staking amount.
13. What is the minimum specification of the storage nodes proposed for Mainnet?
A. 6 Core Processor
RAM 8 GB (16 GB Recommended)
HDD 1 TB SSD / NVME Recommended
Minimum 10 TB Bandwidth
Minimum Upload / Download Speed of 100 MBPS
24/7/365 Availability
* This specification is as per the current requirement, Subject to change in the future*
14. Can I register a new storage node before 1 September?
A. We are currently in the migration process, and our priority would be to get our existing active node operators to upgrade their storage nodes. This would be followed by a window for inactive storage nodes to upgrade their nodes. Once this phase is completed, we welcome our new storage node operator to stake at the new limit and add new storage nodes.
15. Can a new Storage Node Operator add tokens to their existing stake tokens to increase their staked amount?
A. Currently, users can either continue their existing staked amount or unstake and reclaim their existing token and set up new staking as per the current staking amount announced (Please note activation of new nodes is suspended)
16. The reputation score in the node dashboard is not the same as the reputation score in the farmers' site. Can you tell us the reason?
A. The last date for migrating active and inactive nodes to the mainnet is 31st Oct 2024. Only the active nodes shown in farmer.storx.io would be eligible for storage rewards.
If inactive nodes are migrated before 15th Oct 2024. Their reputation score in farmer.storx.io would be used to gauge their status (So they cannot claim any rewards before 15th Nov) and distribute rewards. The dashboard score would not be relevant for storage rewards until 31 Oct 2024
Time for Upgradation for Storage Nodes
1. Active Nodes: 1st August, 2024–15 Oct, 2024
2. Inactive Nodes: 15 Oct, 2024–31 Oct, 2024
Post 31 Oct 2024, No upgrade would be possible, and beta storage node operators would need to unstake their node claim staking token and stake new node at the current staking limits announced
17. Do the new servers need Ubunto 22 or still use the old 20?
A. We have not established any requirements regarding the versions required to set up the new servers for Ubuntu users. If such a requirement is needed, the team will update you.
18. How can we ensure the graph is populated correctly? I cannot see it.
A. Activity status in the graph will be recorded only if you encounter the action happening in the dashboard.
19. What does the uptime mean?
A. It is the status representing the server setup time.
20. What is the last contact time?
A. It is time to state the recent website visit.
21. Do we need new VPSs that meet new requirements? Do these new nodes have to be staked at the current amount, 40000? Or can we migrate to a new VPS using whatever stake we have, and is it still valid?
A. Until the timelines stated for migration (Active Node — 1st August — 15 Oct & Inactive Nodes 15 Oct — 31 Oct 2024), There is no change in the staking amount; users can upgrade with their existing stake whether you are using your existing VPS or upgrading your VPS/Change ISP? The stake has no set requirement, as it is just an upgrade.
21. Should I update my current node to migrate to the mainnet?
A. You need to update the current node to the new available update. Refer to the link: — https://doc.storx.io/storage-node-shell.html.
22. Do I have to UNSTAKE? Should I shut down my current VPS before setting up the new one?
A. You can set up a new node in the existing vpc. Just clean up all old data; you don’t need to unstake. Old staking will be continued in the current setup.
23. How do I set up the Uptime Robot correctly? I can’t figure out which port. Previously, 50505 was used. And now, how do I set it up?
Ans. The uptime is going to be updated as the setup runs.
24. I migrated my nodes to a VPS that meets the new requirements, following the instructions provided. I am sending you links to my nodes. When can I turn off the old VPS?
A. Once the migration to the new VPS is done, you can stop the old VPS.
25. How can I update the node manually?
A. Kindly visit the following document to update the node manually.
https://doc.storx.io/storage-node-manual.html
26. Is there any easy way to update the node automatically?
A. Kindly refer to the following document to update the node automatically using the scripts provided.
https://doc.storx.io/storage-node-shell.html
27. How can I check if the node is set up successfully?
A. Once the node is set up, you can check the status of the node setup on this link: https://farmer.storx.io/. You must provide the wallet ID in the search bar to check its status. If it is active, then it is appropriately configured.
28. Can I upgrade the existing node using the upgrade option available in the shell script documentation?
A. Yes, you can upgrade the same existing node only if the installation of the node has been done previously using the steps mentioned in the shell script documentation. This will work; otherwise, the node might need reinstallation. For reinstallation, please follow the steps in the document.https://doc.storx.io/storage-node-shell.html
