The Kind-Hearted Sparrow

May Sara’s kindness inspire us all

The Enchanted River flowed through a lush forest. In the forest were many types of trees and high in one of the oldest oak trees lived a little sparrow named Sara.

She was known for her gentle nature and willingness to help others. In her small nest high in the tree, she spent her days singing as she sewed magical garments from bits of cloth she found along the river.

One chilly winter morning, Sara noticed a mouse named Mouse shivering under some bushes close to a nearby tree. His whiskers were covered in frost, and his paws trembled. Sara’s heart was sad. She flew down to the mouse and chirped, “Dear friend, why are you out here in the cold? Come up to my nest, and I’ll share my warmth with you.”

Mouse’s eyes widened. “But Sara, you barely have enough feathers to keep yourself warm. Why would you help me?”

Sara smiled. “Because kindness is like a seed. When we plant it, it grows into something beautiful. Come, let’s share what we have.”

Sara and Mouse climbed up to Sara’s nest. Sara pulled on a piece of purple fabric tucked into a hole in the tree. Out came a multicolored blanket she had made. She fluffed her feathers, creating a snug space for Mouse, and…
