Film review: ‘Jackdaw’
Drive but on a high-speed and powerful motorbike

After working on big-name projects such as Netflix’s The Sandman and Disney+’s Willow, writer/director Jamie Childs is now bringing his top-notch filmmaking skills to the big screen. In his debut feature, Jackdaw, Childs and an impeccable lead actor, Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Haunting of Hill House) take you on a dark, violent and gritty road trip throughout the UK. During its 97 runtime, Jackdaw becomes a very effective (but not flawless) thriller with enough energy, tension and tremendous acting to keep you engaged until the credits start rolling.
The film opens in a very thunderous and gripping way. We meet Jack Dawson (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), an ex-soldier and motocross champion battling the angry waves of the North Sea in his yellow canoe. The thunderous sea, the dark clouds and the giant windmills mid-sea heighten the suspense even more. After reaching the appointed buoy and retrieving the package for his crime and drugs boss, Silas (Joe Blakemore), Jack is chased by two unknown figures on jet skis. After barely escaping with the package, Jack is stranded on land without the promised payment. He keeps the package in his possession to ensure that Silas delivers his end of the bargain, but that…
