The story of the men landing on the moon isn’t only the greatest achievement of all time but also the most debated. While there’s proof of Neil Armstrong, Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin and Michael Collin landing on the brightest celestial planet in the universe, there are still many critics debating about the authenticity of the footage. Director Greg Berlanti (Love, Simon, Life as We Know It) plays with those two elements — the landing itself and the doubts around it — hard and fast in his latest feature.

While the movie is based on true events, it’s only partly based on those happenings. So did the moon landing really happen or not? Even Berlanti casts a doubt about that during the 132 minutes runtime, but what’s crystal clear though is that Fly Me to the Moon never completely gets off the ground

That this film has no intention of sticking to the true facts becomes obvious from the very first scene. Yes, we hear and see the real life disastrous consequences of the tragic mission that was Apollo One, but the head of the follow-up project Apollo Twelve, Cole Davis (Channing Tatum), never existed.
