Why we only hire people who love lasagna
What matters to us and why? Lasagna matters to us. Why does lasagna matter to us? With its layers of creamy cheese, delicious ragú sauce and filling, all tiered in sheets of golden pasta, how could it not? Even though it seems too trivial at first to really matter, lasagna is highly profound in nature — what matters is what lasagna represents, not the dish itself.
In many ways, lasagna is the result of the interaction of cultures across generations. Though it is of Italian origin, its components are not. The main ingredient, the lasagna sheet, originates from flat noodles that Marco Polo brought from Ming China. Tomatoes, vital for the lasagna’s iconic ragú bolognese sauce, initially came from South America.
Lasagna is an organized combination of different ideas and flavors. It matters so much to us because its many, diverse layers can be used as a metaphor for our story. Like lasagna, our story is about a combination of different ideas. One place where they merge.
Everyone at the team is considered a chef with their own taste and responsibilities. Together we have the ingredients to serve our clients with a dish that they have never tasted before. And makes them keep coming back for more.
In the same way, that diversity is an integral part of lasagna, it’s an integral part of Team AMS. All kinds of diversity matter to us — being in a ‘lasagna-like’ environment, full of different, contrasting ideas matters to us because diversity is what makes AMS thrive.

Lasagna is significant to us for the same reasons as the city of Amsterdam. Both are highly varied, near-eclectic mixtures of ideas and cultures. They’re both important to us because they show how different things from different places and ideas can work together cohesively. From the dish to the open-face, lasagna is always changing with the world around it, as cultures and ideas mix together. This is why lasagna matters. It shows how adaptability can lead to success, and how it can be accommodated to create a more cohesive unit.
We’re grateful to build our ‘lasagna-like’ environment in one of the most vibrant, inspiring cities of the world.
So, like lasagna, let’s all accommodate different ideas and flavors, and bake them together to create an amazing final product. The world could use a lot more open-mindedness, and, most certainly, a lot more lasagna.
