[Korean Grammar] V/A-(으)면서

V/A1-(으)면서 (V/A2하다) to V/A2 while V/A1 (at the same time)
  • It’s used when two actions or states occur at the same time.
  • The subjects of both clauses are the same.
  • The tense endings are not added to the (으)면서. It is always written in the present tense.
  • Verb/Adjective stem ending with final consonant + 으면서
    Verb/Adjective stem ending with vowel, ㄹ + 면서

Examples with verbs

전화하면서 메모하고 있어요.
I am taking notes while talking on the phone.

노래 들으면서 공부해요.
I study while listening to music.

티비 보면서 케이크를 만들고 있어요.
She is making a cake while watching TV.

운전하면서 통화하지 마세요.
Do not call while driving.

Examples with adjectives

이 옷은 예쁘면서 싸요.
These clothes is pretty and cheap.

이 초콜릿은 쓰면서 달아요.
This chocolate is bitter and sweet.
