The prefix 갓 [gat] comes from the English word for “God”. In Korean, it is used as a slang term to praise someone.

* Rule for Korean Names:

1. Remove the family name.

2. Add 갓 [gat] before the first name.

e.g. 김연아 (Yuna Kim, Korean figure skater) => 갓연아 [gat-yeon-a]

* Rule for Non-Korean Names:

1. Remove the first name.

2. Add 갓 [gat] before the family name.

e.g. Yuzuru Hanyu (Japanese figure skater) => 갓하뉴 [gat-ha-nyu]

Lionel Messi (Argentine soccer player) => 갓메시 [gat-me-si]
