  1. Let’s celebrate Hangeul Day (Oct 9) together! Hangeul is the Korean alphabet that was invented in 1443 and proclaimed in 1446 by Sejong the Great. It is evaluated to be the only alphabet which the inventor, proclamation day, and the principal of creation are known.

2. Many linguistic scholars say that the Hangul is the simplest, most logical, most ingenious and most scientific of the world’s writing systems. Edwin O. Reischauer and J.K. Fairbank of Harvard University co-wrote in their book that “Hangeul is perhaps the most scientific system of writing in general use in any country.”

3. The principal of Hangeul’s creation was from King Sejong’s love of people. In that era, people used the Chinese alphabet and it was difficult to learn for the lower class. So, the right to read books and learn knowledge was the exclusive possession of the upper. This became their power and ruled the lower class with such power. King Sejong wanted all people to read books and gain knowledge and wisdom so that even the lower class could grow intellectually.

4. This is why we love and celebrate Sejong the Great and Hangeul so much. I am very happy to introduce and teach such Hangeul. I hope this spirit of love can reach out to you as well.
