We asked 14 visual storytellers to share a favorite photo along with a description of what they love most about their work.

Amanda Tromp is a photographer in Denver, CO who loves capturing personality in her portraits.

What do you love about this photo?

“This is the young girl that I mentor through an organization in Denver called Save Our Youth. This is Lanyiia. She’s 14 and she just started her freshman year of high school. I’ve been mentoring her for 2 years now, and this image perfectly describes her, and what she’s like. She’s a dreamer, a rapper, photographer, poet, and basically the coolest teenager I know. She completely posed herself for this picture.”

Stories come in many shapes, sizes, and mediums and impact everyone deeply. A simple photo captures a story in beautiful ways. The stories we tell shape the culture we live in and we want to highlight photographers using their talents to tell the stories that matter.
