We asked 14 visual storytellers to share a favorite photo along with a description of what they love most about their work.

Ben Ward is a photographer in Fort Collins, CO who willfully turns fleeting moments into captured memories.

What do you love about this photo?

“Most of my favorite photos aren’t ones that are well-composed or well thought out, but they are ones that evoke some emotion or memory in me. I took this photo without even looking through the viewfinder while quickly walking behind my girlfriend, Eri, through a field in Fort Collins. This was taken in the springtime, when we were still getting to know each other and we would drive around Northern Colorado looking for places to take photos at. I wasn’t working full time and life was relatively easy. The photo is filled with a sense of youth and carelessness that I miss.”

Stories come in many shapes, sizes, and mediums and impact everyone deeply. A simple photo captures a story in beautiful ways. The stories we tell shape the culture we live in and we want to highlight photographers using their talents to tell the stories that matter.
