A halloween witch
She taught me the greatest lessons of human life
This halloween, me and my friends were planning something fun, mystery and adventure.
We packed our bags, wore our costumes and headed straight to a bus to an amusement park 9 kilometers away from our place. It was decorated as such everything gave spooky vibe in dark night crowd.
We 4 besties were having one of the best times of our lives until…
I spotted a haunted house game in the park.
They stared me and in the very few next minutes, we hesitantly took the tickets to the house.
We hang back before entering but still did it anyway.
As soon as the big door opened creaking, hundreds of bats flew to us. It was an old shabby mansion, all dark with few blue lamps lit at some places, grandeur paintings placed on the walls.
It was no less than a horror house we see in movies.
What’s worse was when we saw a witch was marching towards us with her hair flowing in all directions, stamping her boots loudly.
Her face looked so scary like the nun’s from the movie. She was standing right in front of us and suddenly, she started climbing the walls all the way up to lavish chandelier.
One of my friends, Jack peed in his pants ;-;
She broke the chandelier and it fell straight on us.
Hours later when I woke up, I spotted the witch sitting right in front of me in a jungle. None of my friends were there.
Imagine waking up to a witch’s face. I’d rather not sleep.
I looked all around, I saw 3 doors at one side and a dense bush on the other. All 3 doors looked different. One showed my picture with friends, the other showed with parents and last one of me smiling with a witch.
A strange voice rang “If you want to escape the halloween maze, make choices wisely and doors will open up for you yourself ”
The witch said-
You can trust me, I’m a good witch.
I just wanted to escape the place so bad, terrified by the witch, none of my friends were around and lost in a freaking jungle.
I closed my damp eyes and just ran away from the witch.
I don’t remember exactly, but I think I opened the door with pictures of me smiling with the witch. As soon as I opened the door, I fell for nearly 13 minutes down to earth. I was certainly sure that I am falling to death until the witch appeared.
In life’s maze, always choose patience over haste. Calm decisions are the key to navigating through uncertainty
Saying this, she disappeared and I fell on a soft grass bed.
I stood up and saw 7 Jacks (my friend) surrounded me standing in a circle. All of them said
I am your brother, your bestie, how can you not identify me, choose me, choose me…
All of them looked identical. I, then, remembered what the witch told me. I swiped my tears off and asked them- “Who would I invite to my fantasy dinner party?”
While some named my crush or some celebs. One of them straight shouted Albert Einstein and this was when, I recognized he was the real Jack and held his hands.
(to be honest, I didn’t know the answer myself. I knew my friends would come up with something weird)
Jack hugged me tight and said that I am the only one who could save them or they’ll be stuck forever. With this, he ran away crying…
I felt all guilty and hopeless because I was the one who brought my friends and risked everyone’s lives. I was just about to give up until witch bobbed up and said-
There’s no point of feeling bad about mistakes. Past is a place to learn and grow and not a place to live.
I decided to complete the maze anyhow to save everyone. If I brought everyone in trouble, I am supposed to cover it up.
Sam, my another friend, I saw him running towards me. I was so happy, I rushed to him as well. We both hugged each other and he said hastily
I know the way from where we can get out. Come follow me quick.
I ran after him as a obedient child wherever he took me. We were standing by a waterfall when he finally stopped.
As I turned to him to ask what’s the next path, he smirked. I felt uneasy. And… he pushed me to the waterfall.
This time, I had no choice, I was drowning and falling to death BUT as always, witch appeared to my rescue. She shared her broom with me and while we were flying, she said
Never trust anyone blindly. Sometimes, whom you trust the most are the ones who hurts you the most
And this was my last fall, I fell in completely white room, with 4 pictures, each of my friend at each wall.
A strange voice rang again —
“This is the final level of this halloween maze. Choose one of your friends and escape with him, while others will turn into vampires”
My legs were shaking and I sat down in dismay. We all were besties, there was no way I would let them turn into vampires. Unlike always, this time witch didn’t show up when I was in trouble. I was desperately looking all around to find her.
I’d rather stay in the white room forever than to live in a guilt of killing my own friends.
Tears rolled down my warm cheeks all the time when I drive back to all the memories we had together since childhood.
The laughter, the games, the fights and holding each other’s back at tough times no matter what.
Hopeless and helpless, I touched each photograph, expressing gratitude for the presence of each friend in my life. With a sense of unity and appreciation, I whispered while crying
Thank you, all of you, for being part of my journey.
As I said this… I was at the amusement park once again. I saw my friends having our favorite, oreo shake.
I imagined of my dear good witch one last time hoping she would show up to thank her. She taught me many values, but what I learnt myself was-
Never judge anyone by his looks or appearance. You never know who might become one of the best things in your life
She appeared in front of me, and finally said-
If you can win in your mind, you can win in reality
I thanked her for teaching me things that I cannot learn without experiences. My friends remember nothing about this trip to halloween maze. Maybe, this was my lucky turn by destiny…
