When we set out to build Storyboard last year, we wanted to empower companies to communicate and collaborate through private podcasts. Now, in a world where distributed teams are quickly becoming the norm, companies are looking for new ways to empower team members to collaborate across time zones and distances.

From small startups to large companies, we’re honored to count more than 1,700 organizations around the world as customers — including Delta Air Lines, DHL, and HelloFresh, who have launched channels on Storyboard — and we continue to listen to your feedback as we build the Storyboard platform.

Today, we’re thrilled to share that we’ve raised a $4.5M seed round led by CRV, which is known for investing at the earliest stage of high-growth companies like DoorDash, Twitter, Zendesk, Airtable and others. The round also includes participation from Harry Stebbings of 20MinuteVC, Operator Partners, Slack Fund, Dave Ambrose, and Matt Ziskie.

Just like podcasting, the Storyboard platform enables creators within a company (executives, managers, or employees) to record and launch internal, on-demand audio content. Companies have full control over the platform, and team members can listen to important company updates or training sessions anywhere, anytime — whether they’re cooking dinner or walking around their neighborhood.

We’ve learned firsthand how audio captures the voices, personalities, and heart of a company. And, it’s easier to produce and consume than video, which makes it such an effective way to keep teams engaged without asking them to spend more time staring at screens.

Here are a few unique ways companies are using Storyboard today:

  • Internal podcasts: Interview executives, team members, and more. Drive company culture by keeping employees engaged with key messages that they can play right from their mobile device.
  • Town halls and executive updates: Share important updates without interrupting calendars. While asynchronous, Storyboard helps drive the conversation as employees can actively participate with text and voice comments whether they are listening five minutes or five days after an episode has been posted.
  • Mobile workforce engagement: Whether your team is distributed or often on the road, Storyboard makes it easy to offer mobile training content. You can unlock employees’ potential on Storyboard, no matter where they are as employees can listen on-the-go.

What’s next:

We’re excited for our next chapter in 2021. This funding will accelerate our growth, our platform development and our team expansion. We’re on a mission to transform how companies engage and inform their employees.

In this next phase of our journey, we’re focused on enabling creators across our network to confidently develop and share great audio-content. This will require evolving with new tools to record and edit audio content with ease. Our belief is that Storyboard should be a collaboration channel for employees across the company, and we’re going to develop new tools to support this ambition.

We’re looking for talented people — especially with a passion for audio and media — to join our team. If you are interested in joining us, we’d love to hear from you! Check out our open roles and say hello.

If you’re a creator who is ready to launch your first audio channel for your team, you can get started today — Storyboard has a free plan for up to 50 listeners.
