10 Media Events to Put on Your Calendar This Winter

If you work in digital media, you might want to put these ten events on your calendar. From conferences on the future of media to summits on non-fiction entertainment, these events will keep you up-to-date with the latest insights into digital media, marketing, and video content strategy.

1. IGNITION Future of Media: November 29–30, 2017

Location: New York, NY

Cost: $3,995

Reasons to go: This conference by Business Insider is in its eighth year and is attended by the media, marketing, and technology industry’s biggest leaders. If you want to hear from the Executive Editor of The New York Times or the Washington Post, the Vice President of Content at Snap Inc., or the CMO of GE and many more, then this is a must-attend.

2. Digital Publishing Innovation Summit: December 4–5, 2017

Location: San Francisco, CA

Cost: $1,695–2,495, depending on pass choice

Reasons to go: DigiPub is a great event for those in digital publishing to network with their peers while also learning key insights into growing audiences, exploring video, and monetizing content. Speakers this year include the VP of Digital at VICE, the VP of Brand Marketing at NBCUniversal, the President of Thrillist, and more.

3. Content Marketing Summit: December 11–12, 2017

Location: New York, NY

Cost: $1,695–2,495, depending on pass choice

Reasons to go: By the same people who organize DigiPub — Innovation Enterprise — this event is part of the IE8 Festival 2018, which will bring together eight different summits over the course of two days. Because of this, the summit will provide many opportunities for networking, dozens of speakers who are execs and leaders in the digital content and marketing space, and a schedule packed with presentations and panels.

4. CES: January 9–12, 2018

Location: Las Vegas, NV

Cost: $100–1,400, depending on pass choice

Reasons to go: 2017 was the fiftieth anniversary of CES, organized by the Consumer Tech Association. Every year, it features more than 4,000 exhibitors, brings in over 180,000 industry professionals, and generates huge media coverage. If the networking opportunities alone don’t convince you to attend, then the speakers should, featuring executives from Intel, Hulu, Turner, and more. There are so many sessions that it can seem overwhelming, which is why you should check out CES tracks, such as C Space Storytellers or Digital Hollywood.

5. NATPE: January 16–18, 2018

Location: Miami, FL

Cost: $1,250 before Dec. 13

Reasons to go: The NATPE Miami Marketplace & Conference features hundreds of speakers, from Vox Media to Facebook, and draws content buyers and sellers from around the world. If you’re interested in joining the conversation around digital content and connecting with content creators, distributors, influencers, and more, then NATPE is a must-attend.

6. IMM USA: January 25, 2018

Location: New York, NY

Cost: $1,550–1,800 for exhibitors

Reasons to go: The International Media Marketplace is a one-day event where journalists and media can meet travel and tourism brands. With one-on-one appointments, and over a thousand exhibiting companies, IMM is an excellent opportunity for those in the digital media and travel industry to connect and network.

7. Realscreen Summit: January 28–31, 2018

Location: Washington, DC

Cost: $1,650–1,975 before Dec. 1

Reasons to go: Realscreen Summit — celebrating its twentieth anniversary — brings together creators, buyers, and distributors of unscripted and non-fiction entertainment. With roundtables, opportunities to meet a mentor or expert, speed pitching, and networking, this is a must for those in digital media. Speakers this year include the SVP of Discovery Channel, the President of HBO Documentary Films, the President of A+E Networks, and more.

8. Digital Entertainment World: February 5–6, 2018

Location: Marina Del Ray, CA

Cost: $799 before Nov. 30

Reasons to go: Digital Entertainment World is a two-day expo focusing on the digital content ecosystem. Beyond the regular panel discussions and networking receptions, it also features a startup pitch and competition. Their 2018 speakers include the VP of Interactive Experiences at NBCUniversal, the CEO of Digital Media Wire, and the Senior VP and Head of New Media at Paramount Pictures.

9. Code Media: February 12–13, 2018

Location: Huntington Beach, CA

Cost: $2,750 before Dec. 15

Reasons to go: Recode hosts this two-day conference on making, distributing, and monetizing media and content. Leaders in the media industry attend and speak at this event, including the CEO of TIME Inc., the Editor-in-Chief of The Huffington Post, and the CEO of Oath.

10. Digiday Publishing Summit Europe: February 19–21, 2018

Location: Monaco, France

Cost: $3,095–4,995, depending on pass choice

Reasons to go: This year’s summit will explore how the media industry is under scrutiny and what publishers can do to regain trust. Past attendees include leaders from CNN, Al Jazeera, HBO Europe, and more.
