Have you heard of Small Business Saturday? Launched by American Express a decade ago during the Great Recession, the US shopping holiday that falls on the last Saturday of November encourages consumers to support local businesses by shopping small.

This year, one cost-effective way small businesses are boosting their brand on social media is through creating TikTok videos. The impressive view counts on hashtags such as #smallbusiness (33.8 billion), #entrepreneur (12.8 billion) and #smallbusinesscheck (10.2 billion) #shopsmall (2.4 billion) indicate how small business conversations are flourishing on the platform.

Plus, its users are “ready to buy and hungry for inspiration:” Sixty-seven percent of users say that TikTok helped them decide what to buy, according to the platform. So, it’s safe to say TikTok is the place to be if you want to help promote your business especially ahead of Small Business Saturday. Here are four types of TikTok videos you can create to garner buzz around your business this season.

Meet the Team

Customers are looking to get to know the people behind your small business. At Storyhunter, we wanted to create our very own “Meet the Team” video. So, we used our platform to hire freelancer Eric Hinojosa. Eric, who is a creative director and editor, put together this TikTok that’s based on the viral “Pass the Phone” challenge.

Now, if you’re a small business, your team may consist of just you. Check out the videos below from this year’s viral TikTok trend tapping into the art of small business scrappiness.

Origin Story

An origin story is a story about how your company got started. It’s an opportunity to go beyond a brief blurb on your “about’’ page and establish a more meaningful connection with your customers.

Day in the Life

Give your customers a glimpse of your typical day as a business owner that may include everything from tedious paperwork to creating exciting new product lines. Consumers will get a better sense of what it means to be a small business owner and it can help generate brand trust and loyalty.

Live Events

Live events are an attractive way to boost community involvement. (Note: to go live, you need at least 1,000 followers on the platform.) For your LIVE, you can launch a Q&A session, giving customers a chance to get to know your personality and business on a more intimate level. Another option is creating a behind-the-scenes experience, for example, how you manufacture or package your product.
