As the holiday season approaches, it’s time to start making wishlists. With so many options to choose from, gear shopping can be quite the ordeal (and expense)! However, it’s also a great time to take advantage of any sales. And if you’re not sure what to look for, check out these phenomenal cameras and other tools that will take your filmmaking kit to the next level.

Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro: $5,995

For all our broadcast freelancers out there, this is the camera for you. With controls on the side of the camera, you are able to adjust the settings by hand, so that you don’t have to look away from what you’re filming. You never have to take the camera off of your shoulder when you are adjusting settings. This camera combines high-end digital film quality with the ergonomics and features broadcasters need. The high quality neutral density filters let you control how much light enters the camera, so you can quickly increase or reduce the amount of light let in. The URSA Mini Pro is able to mount a range of different lenses, so you can use one camera for all your different filming needs, be it a commercial shoot or a broadcast gig.

Sony PXW-FS7: $7,999

This Sony camera is ideal for long-form shooting. A great camera for documentaries, corporate videos, and indie features, the FS7 is the ultimate hybrid between a camcorder and DSLR. It can record in 4K, film super-slow motion, and it’s able to switch out the lenses as easily as on a DSLR. If you are running a small production company, this is the perfect camera to add to your gear list.

Magnus VT-4000: $194.95

This top-of-the-line tripod is made from anodized aluminum that can support up to 8.8 pounds. The two-way fluid head allows for smooth operations, detailed adjustments, with left and right pan bar mounts. Since all the head controls are on the left side, your right hand is kept free for the panning handle. The 2-stage design allows you to adjust the height of the tripod from 27.6 to 59 inches.

Billingham Bag: $502.44

Billingham’s Packington Bag is an absolute classic and for good reason. This large-leather satchel features removable padding so that your camera bag can transform into an everyday bag. The fabric is bonded to butyl rubber which makes it incredibly weather resistance. When traveling with cameras it’s useful to have a bag that fits and protects, while maintaining a stylish look.
