February is in the books and it’s no shock that our community continued to wow us with their work. From the United Kingdom to Morocco, to India, to France, our worldwide network stopped at nothing to remind us how talented they are. In the February 2020 edition of the Storyhunter Staff Picks, we have documentary shooters, video journalists and animators who did terrific work for Instagram, Business Insider, Bloomberg BNA, and more. Documentary Filmmaker: Ana Gonzalez

Instagram needed someone to film French pop star Angèle as she prepared for the first show of her tour, as a part of their #ThreeMinuteAutobiography series. Getting exclusive backstage access for this project was Ana Gonzalez, a freelancer based in Mexico City, who has experience creating outstanding documentary films and branded content all over the world. She speaks multiple languages, which is a huge asset for an international freelancer. Check out her profile here.

Business Insider creates so many great videos that show the business side of very common products and experiences. In this case, they wanted to explain how Ski Resorts have adapted to making fake snow as temperatures have risen. To film this video, they hired Loic Hofstedt, a self-taught video journalist and filmmaker from Aix-en-Provence, France. South China Morning Post put up a Call For Pitches, looking for character-driven stories that shine a light on underreported social issues across the Asia-Pacific. They received over twenty pitches, including this story from Peter Bittner! Peter is no stranger to the Storyhunter Staff Picks, as he took home the 2019 Staff Pick for Best Environmental Video for one of his pieces with Quicktake by Bloomberg. You can see his profile here.

Great Big Story has an ongoing Call For Pitches on Storyhunter, looking for stories from around the world that showcase incredible, rarely seen places for their series “Uncharted”. They’ve created many videos from this Call For Pitches, including this one that video journalist Olga Khrustaleva pitched, about one of the world’s largest film studios, located in a desert in Morocco. Bloomberg BNA needed an animator that could help them easily explain the complex subject of Litigation Finance. To find the perfect fit, they utilized Storyhunter Studios, and ended up hiring Virginia Gilles, a motion graphics designer from Manchester, UK.
