“Mommy, there’s a man sleeping in his car.”

“Leave him alone, Janey.” She adjusted her coat, pushing the pocketbook strap further up her arm, and knocked on the apartment door.

“Mom.” A man in his thirties opened the door. “Please, come in. Janey.” He heard his mother sigh as Janey stood near the car.
