Fear Out of Knowing

— another side of knowledge

I tell people that
knowledge is powerful.
And I know that
and felt it take over.

The young never
feared a thing until
they grew old
and have learned and been told:

the stories of the world,
the secrets we behold —
or simply how a lightning can strike
in the wrong places;

or how those we trust most
can riddle us by greed.
Certain truths we accumulate
through time and growth.

Knowledge is powerful.

It can bring out the best
in those who seek good in this world,
or the worst in those who don’t.

Then there are those like I
who felt taken over by fear.
Fear from the knowledge
of the possibilities out there.

Knowledge is powerful.
It can determine one’s actions
or decisions
or thoughts.

The fear of the unknown
is experienced by all,
but there is as much
fear out of knowing.
