Harsh

A Poem

J.D. Harms

Where the murder and sanity left off
let’s not rush to install any statues
The crumbling regime of the still
somehow sticking it to the masses
is tired but apparently not old yet
Sensing the coming of yet more egoism
the harsh breath becomes a last
and a last and still more of those
Trials of sitting it out
haven’t gone quite so well
and hope is starting to seem like pure fantasy
Not that there’s anything wrong
with fantasy
Just with the messes that refuse
to be cleaned up
and the monuments that go with them
