The Squirrel

Dublin street art by Artur Bordalo

This wonderful street art is by Portuguese artist Artur Bordalo, aka Bordalo II. It is the latest in the series “Trash Animals” that aims to bring attention to world environmental issues. The giant squirrel is made entirely from waste and highlights the plight of the red squirrel in Ireland. The red squirrel is a native in Ireland bit has been driven to ever decreasing numbers.

I used to see red squirrels at the graveyard when I’d visit on Sundays with my dad. We don’t see them any more, the more aggressive grey squirrel has taken over.

Here, Artur is photographed creating his work.
