You Are (but) the Moon

You
are the moon:
reflecting silver sunlight
ever changing to mimic the world
yet always the same.

You have your own rules
yet you follow us.

You cast silver shadows -
are they better than black?

You thrive where the sun is not -
yet without it, you are nothing.

You pull your own oceans
You lead your own armies
You have your own creatures
You have your own motion

But

You are but the moon.
You cannot shine
all the time.
