Voters across our region responded to grass roots efforts to advance common sense conservation measures at the ballot box.

The resulting defeat of Amendment 1, the sham solar amendment, is a win for sustainability and smart solar policy and will help ensure a more progressive regulatory environment for the State of Florida in line with much of the United States.

Lee County’s decisive passage of the county Land Conservation Program, Conservation 20/20, with 83.71% of the vote, is another step towards renewing conservation programs at the local level that can help balance the needs of a growing community with the proven wisdom of putting aside lands for conservation that protect water, land and wildlife and our economic well-being.

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida wishes to thank all of those who voted to ensure a more sustainable vision for our region at the local and state level through these two initiatives. We are proud to have played a significant role with our partners in educating voters and organizations on the pitfalls of Amendment 1, including our special Evenings at the Conservancy featuring leading solar advocates who shared with us their insights.

In addition, our staff played a pivotal role as part of the Yes on Conservation 20/20 coalition and provided financial support to help ensure its’ passage.

As usual, neither of these efforts would have been possible without your support and involvement. Thank you for helping us shape smart public policy at the local and regional level with your support.
