Giving Thanks
“Thank you,” it’s one of the first things we teach our children to say and often one of the last sentiments we hope to express. It is a term that cannot be overused and one whose importance cannot be overstated. It can brighten a day; it can unite a people and it’s something we would like to say to everyone that has made the dream of this organization come true.
When the Conservancy first came to be in 1964, I doubt the founders realized how intensely their message would resonate. After all, it was just a few passionate people trying to protect a place they loved. But as it turned out, they weren’t the only ones that loved it, and since our inception, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for our mission. Now, nearly 60 years later, our community of thousands spreads far beyond any geographical boundary hinted at within our name.
The Conservancy name is simply a roof for us all to join under. A single megaphone to speak with one voice. It represents a view and a belief that the natural world isn’t just a convenient backdrop for a postcard, but essential to our way of life.
As this hectic year comes to a close, we want to say thank you to everyone that has played a part in moving our mission forward. Every interaction that spurred a new initiative, every concerned citizen that helped an injured animal, or spoke up for conservation. Every board member that has helped steer this growing ship, every member who prioritized the natural world in their kids’ lives. It’s a million tiny acts of kindness and appreciation in recognition of the land that brings us together.
We were founded on gratitude and an appreciation for the land, for what it provides and what it inspires. It’s only right that we return that appreciation to those who have helped speak up for it. So, thank you to all of those who have contributed in the past and continue to today. Your conservation concerns, thoughts, and actions will always have a place with the Conservancy.
