HALO REACH — 10 Years Later and Still Perfect

Team Noble

The final scene of Halo Reach positions Noble Six’s damaged and gun-shot riddled helmet in the forefront while in the background, planet Reach burns from the “glassing” that the Covenant army has done via their cruiser-ships. Cortana’s voiceover praises the actions of the Noble Team and how, without them, the Halo infrastructure would never have been destroyed. The screen fades to black.

10 years later, Halo Reach remains one of the best FPS games of a generation (specifically the Xbox 360 reign) and is easily the best Halo games. Why? A lot of reasons. Namely, it was Bungie’s final proper Halo-title that they had control of and they combined everything they learned into this project that it was perfect time they bowed out to let 343 take over the franchise.

Reach was developed by a part of the Bungie team after the release of Halo 3 in 2007. The team split up to work on Halo ODST (which is also worth writing about) and Halo Reach. Both teams created very interesting and solid Halo titles but Reach will remain my favorite. Well, it will remain what I consider the best — for nostalgia sake, the first Halo will always be my favorite.
