Christian Pulisic Hype Train: It has left the station and it’s not coming back

If you haven’t been following the United States national soccer team over the past year, then you’ve missed a good deal of hype around a kid who is barely even old enough to drive. It may seem crazy to hype up an 18 year old kid as much as American soccer fans have, but every bit of it is warranted: Christian Pulisic is the best soccer player in the United States already. Without a doubt. And its really not even close.

Pulisic’s rise has been a meteoric one. He signed with Borussia Dortmund at just 16 years of age. Dortmund is the second best club in the Bundesliga in Germany, coming in behind world soccer giants Bayern Munich. The club is also only four years removed from playing in the Champions League final. Pulisic started with the under-17’s at Dortmund, but he quickly rose to getting opportunities with the first team. He made his Bundesliga debut in January of 2016, just 11 months after signing with the club as a youth player. His first full year with the first team at Dortmund saw him get more and more opportunities. In a Champions League fixture against Benfica this March, he became Dortmund’s youngest ever to score a goal in the competition. He has been hailed by former manager Thomas Tuchel by being a very “self-confident and ambitious” player. It’s easy to see that description with Pulisic seeing how fast he has adjusted to such a big club in Borussia Dortmund.

Not only has he produced for club, but the 18 year old American wonder-kid has also produced for country. From day one, Pulisic has stepped on the field for the U.S Men’s National team and constantly looked like the most gifted player on the field. In just 15 appearances to date for the United States, he has scored seven goals. And he has six of those goals in his last nine appearances. The U.S already relies heavily on Pulisic’s influence. While he plays outside on the wing for Dortmund, U.S coach Bruce Arena has deployed him more in the №10 role, which is the role of central playmaker.

In other words, Pulisic pulls the strings on the majority of the attacks for the United States. And this is a player who is barely removed from high school. It’s easy to see already how much he already means to the U.S. He is always the most technically gifted player on the field, and there really isn’t anything he cannot do. Yes it is early in his career, but Pulisic is on track to finish as the greatest soccer player this country has ever seen one day. And that is not a disservice to guys like Landon Donovan or Clint Dempsey at all. It’s just the simple fact of the matter that he is so much more talented than anyone to ever put on the stars and stripes.

So hop aboard, because the Pulisic hype train has left the station, and it’s not slowing down any time soon.
