1. What change would you like to see in the way human rights lawyering is done?
I would like to see more systemic support for human rights lawyering, in terms of infrastructure, funding and human resource development. On the other side I would like more young persons to engage with human rights law in a sustained manner.
2. What book are you currently reading?
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson!
3. What advice would you give to those interested in making a change in the world?
Not every person can be directly involved in the social sector, you need to find a way to create social impact in whatever you do. Please remember that every act you do matters, live with compassion and empathy and you’ll be bringing change in every life you touch.
4. What are some of the challenges in your work and how do you overcome them?
A key challenge with work is finding a balance between professionalising the social sector while also retaining its uniqueness and a hint of its lack of restraint to add the uniqueness that’s needed to drive actual social change. Other challenges are the absolutely inadequate sources of funding and missing policy infrastructure required to sustain long term change.
5. What gives you joy outside of work?
Thinking of this makes me realise how much of my daily joy is derived from work! I otherwise completely adore traveling, it’s therapeutic for me :)
