US Marine gets first African American Four Star General in 246 Years

Lieutenant General Michael Langley of the US Marine Corps has been promoted to the rank of four star General and will take the command of the US Africa Command.

Previously, he assumed the duties of Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic and Commander, Marine Forces Command and Marine Forces Northern Command.

The US Africa Command is one the eleven unified commandant commands of the department of defense.

Headquartered at Germany, the Command oversees United States’ military presence in Africa. ‘AFRICOM is a young command- only 15 years old. But it’s a critical one, and an outstanding example of how working shoulder-to-shoulder with our partners makes us all safer and more prosperous.’ — Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III said in the Change of Command ceremony. He further added:
