Meet the Technologist: Schamir Poliard
Describe yourself in 3 words:
Creative — I’m naturally creative so I like to incorporate as much creativity into everything I do, including completing tasks and solving problems.
Driven — I love setting goals, being proactive, and taking initiative. When going through challenges and setbacks, I preserve through and am motivated to achieve success!
Optimistic — I tend to expect the best outcome from any given circumstance. Even in times when I fail, I see that as an opportunity to learn and grow knowing circumstances aren’t permanent. I have hope that the best is yet to come for me.
Why did you join Strategio’s Simulator?
What drew me to Strategio was its culture and values. I love that the organization is centered around the diversity and inclusion of minorities who are heavily under-represented in the tech industry. It‘s just something about being a part of a company with having my leaders and peers that look like me that motivates me to push hard to succeed and be a role model to little black girls who want to pursue tech since I didn’t have one growing up.
What were you doing before you joined Strategio?
I completed my Bootcamp of 100Devs back in November which taught me full-stack development with the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, & NodeJs). I am also an active Community Manager of the ZONA TRIBE discord server which I founded in 2022. In this community, I help support and provide resources to other software engineers looking to succeed in tech.
What are you most excited about this year?
I am most excited about my growth personally and professionally.
What made you decide to get into tech?
I’ve always been interested in tech ever since my dad brought home a pc back in the 90s. I knew I wanted to be involved in tech ever since!
What do you like to do during your spare time?
I love listening to music of any genre, depending on my mood at the moment. I also love watching anime or reality shows like 90 Day Fiancé.
What is your favorite cultural value at Strategio?
Continuously learn because no matter what level or years of experience we have, we’ll always be students of the game of tech at the end of the day.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Japan
