I’ve reached the 4-week mark with Strategio and I wanted to share my adventure so far during the Simulator program.

  1. What are your key takeaways from your time at Strategio?

One of my key takeaways from the last four weeks with Strategio is how supportive and genuine everyone is. Every strategist is willing to take the time and go above and beyond to help clarify and answer any questions or concerns that come up.

The company is invested in the growth of the technologists and empowering the technologists to share what they’ve learned with others in the group through a welcoming environment.

This gives me the confidence to just be myself and to ask questions knowing that there’s nothing to be concerned about and to focus on my growth as a member of the simulator.

2. What would you say to your past self before you started the program?

If I was able to reach back in time and talk to my earlier self post-graduation, I would say “What are you doing? Why are you wasting time? The correct path is right in front of you, apply to Strategio!”

After graduation from university, I began to quickly understand the difficulty in finding job placement as a “freshy” developer like myself. There is a large skill gap between what recent graduates know (Boot Camp or University) and what the industry requires an entry-level software developer to know.

During my five months of job hunting, I came across one company (Strategio) that understands the difficulty of landing a position in the IT industry and strives to help bridge this gap.

3. What did you wish you know before starting on this journey?

The first thing I wish I knew comes from a technology aspect in this case knowing more about the various services that AWS (Amazon Web Services) provides and what roles they play in daily development.

There is a large pool of services that are provided and understanding how each of these can work together to better improve an end product can be difficult. One thing that helped me break down and digest everything is repetition and applying what I’ve learned with detailed exercises that are provided during the simulator program.

The second thing is from a time management aspect.

I wish I knew how to better prioritize my workload and optimize multitasking. There is quite a bit of information to be absorbed and it helps to understand how I work best and when to take necessary breaks to not burn myself out. I learned some of these necessary tools through Strategio’s community engagement events!

I can say with confidence that in the past four weeks I’ve been able to improve on both fronts. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next four weeks will bring!
