Hey there! My name is Tyree Harper, and I’m a software developer based in Oregon. I studied Full Stack Web devolvement at General Assembly.

Let’s get to know each other!

Describe yourself in 3 words:

  • Adaptable— I have had an unconventional upbringing and a quick changing life, so I always had to adjust to new things,
  • Accepting — I have always been different from the people around me, so I understand how it feels to be not accepted. That is a feeling I don’t want others to feel.
  • Analytical — I always look at the world around me and wonder how others observe it. I’m never satisfied with just looking at the surface.

Why did you join Strategio’s Simulator?

When I heard about Strategio from Blacks In Tech, it seemed like it was a perfect fit for me. I was having a hard time passing technical interviews at the time, so I felt like going through this program would help me overcome that. In addition, the mission of Strategio spoke to me, and I wanted to be a part of it!

What were you doing before you joined Strategio?

Before Strategio, I worked at HCL Technologies as a software developer apprentice. It was an excellent opportunity, and I highly recommend the apprenticeship program. However, I just wanted something a little different.

What are you most excited about this year?

I’m excited to dive into the tech industry and start my career. Since last year, I’ve been learning new technologies and working on projects, so it’s exciting to see progress and many opportunities open up for me.

What made you decide to get into tech?

I grew up in the Seattle area around companies like Amazon and Microsoft, I saw how it changed the community around and uplifted people, so I wanted to become a part of it.

What do you like to do during your spare time?

When I have spare time, I like to destress by playing video games with my friends and listening to audiobooks. When I have a lot of free time, I like to try out new dishes or explore a new area.

What is your favorite cultural value at Strategio?

I stand firmly behind Conor Delanbanque’s mission to serve unrepresented groups in tech. As a person that has always lived in areas where most people don’t like me, I understand how much impact seeing someone like you being successful can be. I also connect with Strategio’s value of “Be transparent” because when everyone is transparent the world is a safer place.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I’ve wanted to go to Japan to experience the culture and travel outside of North America nations. I would also like to visit Germany one day, one of my close friends lives there, so I want to see where he grew up.

What’s your favorite restaurant?

A restaurant I love going to is Kura. I’m a sucker for cheap sushi, and Kura gives me that.

What are you looking forward to learning/gaining during the Strategio Simulator?
