My Journey Thus Far with Strategio

The journey thus far with Strategio has been a fantastic privilege. It has been an experience of great learning and growth, along with some welcomed discomfort. I’m surprised at how quickly we’ve reached the halfway point because it does not feel like it’s been four weeks. I want to share a few things as I reflect on the journey thus far.

1. What are my key takeaways from my time at Strategio?

Some of my takeaways so far have been to accept being uncomfortable while learning new things. As Technologists, we want to be experts at our craft; however, it sometimes takes longer than we would like. I’ve learned that being resourceful is a superpower.

Utilizing resources to get yourself unstuck is a skill that we should develop. There are so many technologies and computer languages that it would be inefficient to do a deep dive through them all. Reading documentation and deciphering the information needed to complete a task is an ability I’m thankful I’ve been able to practice.

Getting stuck or getting multiple error messages in your code can be frustrating and uncomfortable. Still, I’ve learned to lean into the problem instead of giving up. Having a mindset that errors are the things pointing you in the direction to eventually arriving at your solution instead of failing for not getting it right the first time has become my new mantra.

2. What would you say to your past self before you started the program?

Remember that your soft skills also need to be worked on in addition to your technical skills. I often think that is something forgotten. For example, being a great communicator and team player adds value to the organization in addition to your technical abilities.

3. What did you wish you knew before starting on this journey?

Time goes by so much more quickly than you’ll realize. Having good notes and personally documenting the journey will help you tangibly see your progression in the program. That will be helpful, especially if you may not feel like you’re moving along as quickly as you would like. You’ll have the evidence of your growth to reassure you.
