Strava’s “Mountain” Office

When I first started at Strava in 2015 as our Office Manager, I remember logging onto Slack and getting invited to the #mountain-office channel. A few wistful employees had grown tired of living in the Bay Area and were lightheartedly pushing for our next office location to be somewhere nestled in the Alps, the Sierras or the Cascades. At that time, it seemed like a far-off dream.

Three years later — we just opened our new location in Denver, Colorado and that dream has become a reality. A quick drive from our office (currently in the Galvanize co-working space as we search for a more permanent location) and I’ve found myself hiking up 14,000 ft peaks on the weekends.

Okay, okay. The mountains weren’t the main reason we selected Denver to be our next location; the city itself is an up-and-coming hub for tech talent, and its active culture was certainly a huge draw. Colorado has been more than welcoming to us — and we can’t wait to continue to grow here.

Governor Hickenlooper (with Strava CEO James Quarles) welcomes us at our January launch event

Since launching in Denver in January, we’ve grown to over 20 employees and plan to continue growing! The enthusiasm for our #mountain-office has been contagious; we started with two product development teams, consisting of product managers, engineers and designers and will continue to hire more (like this role here).
