Terms you need to know before you start your first streaming mission
This might be your first big launch in live streaming and you’ve recognized there are so many terms you need to know in order to make the mission successful. To help you out, we’ve created a short dictionary of terms you’ll need to know as you discover the best streaming provider fit for your needs.

Analytics: a feature that gives you data that can be used to better understand your audience and gain knowledge that can be used to make improvements. Examples include: number of viewers, types of devices they are viewed on, rebuffering rates, total time watched, and much more
Bandwidth: the amount of data that can be transmitted in a fixed amount of time
CDN: content delivery network or content distribution network
Encoder: the necessary hardware/software required to turn your video signal into a stream that can be sent to the web and multisite venues
Embed: a code used to insert the video player into your website
Frame Rate: the frequency that frames are displayed in a video sequence
Live Streaming: online streaming media that is being broadcast in real time
Network Priority: when you select one device to get first dibs on any bandwidth you have, so when your bandwidth fluctuates your streaming device will get priority
On Demand: a feature that allows users to select a video to play when they choose, rather than just viewing during a scheduled live stream
Auto-Recording: when you send a stream to a transcoder and it saves it to your account
Resolution: the number of pixels that can be displayed both horizontally and vertically by a screen
Simulated Live: a way for you to take an uploaded video file and set it to stream at a specific time, as if it were live
Transcoding: the process of converting a file from one encoding format to another
