Let’s make sure you have all the basics in your tool box to make sure your first streaming mission is the best it can be.

Internet:

This one is a given, but more than likely you’ve got internet access because you’re reading this on a device. The better the internet connection, the better the stream!

Camera:

You can go a lot of different directions with this one. As so many of our every day devices now have great quality cameras, you’re easily able to stream directly from your phone. If you’re looking for a higher quality stream, it’s always great to invest in a camera.

A few of our favorites here at Stream Monkey include:

This “pan, tilt, and zoom” camera from PTZ Optics is a great pick for minimally staffed productions because one operator can operate multiple cameras at once. These cameras are also really affordable for those with a tighter budget.

We’re also a big fan of these entry level JVC cameras. They come highly rated and are an affordable option that gives you the ability to use them between live events and for other videos as well.

Last up are these cinema designed cameras from Canon which are popular because of their versatility. You can use them in live production with 1080p 60FPS outputs, as well as use them between live events to record interviews, stories, etc.

Streaming Provider:

There are so many options for streaming now. What you want to look at first is the needs you want to be met during the live streaming journey. Is your potential provider going to be the best fit for what you’re looking for? Will your streaming provider alter the quality of your stream or cut your stream off? Another important factor of live streaming is will the provider be able to help trouble shoot when things go wrong? How often is customer service going to be available? Do they have potential accessories you might need like on-demand and simulated live streaming? These are just a few questions that will be helpful in deciding which provider to go with.

Encoder:

After you’ve got the tools mentioned above, it’s time to take on finding your encoder. This is the device that sends your video signal to your streaming provider. Find out more on encoders in our blog series where we covered Part 1 and Part 2 of choosing the best encoder. We even included some of our favorites here at Stream Monkey!
