Change the face of men’s health with Movember

Now, chances are you would have seen some great (and not so great) moustaches popping up around the world so far this month. We’re halfway through the hairiest month of the year, Movember, but what many people aren’t aware of, is the meaning behind all the moustaches, and what the Movember movement really stands for.

Movember is now the world’s leading non-profit changing the face of men’s health, focusing on three key areas: Mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Why these three? Because these are three of the biggest health issues facing men around the world right now.

· Globally, we are losing one man a minute to suicide — that’s half a million men every year.

· More than 375,000 men around the world die from prostate cancer every year.

· Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15–39.

What started out as a campaign to get men growing moustaches around the world for fun, has grown into a global non-profit, which has now funded over 1250 men’s health projects across the three cause areas, and has the support of over 6 million people worldwide.

But we’re not stopping there, and this is where you come in.

How can you help?

By signing up to host a charity stream through Streamlabs, you will be helping to raise funds to save lives of men around the world. Now you don’t have to be able to grow a Mo to get in on the action. The content creators supporting Movember are all about celebrating Movember, the moustache and men’s health in their own way — you are the creative ones here and we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

No donation goal is too small, it all helps to change the face of men’s health. Here’s some examples of what’s been made possible by the amazing Movember community around the world:

· 16+ million people reached by suicide prevention campaigns run in September 2016, 2017 and 2018.

· Created the world’s largest-ever alliance of experts to tackle the biggest challenges in prostate cancer, including Movember’s Global Action Plan (GAP) and True North projects.

· Through our understanding of how radioactive molecules can be used to target cancer cells in men with advanced prostate cancer, we helped to create clearer imaging, resulting in improved means of destroying cancer cells.

· Created an ambitious set of clinical quality registries (including IRONMAN) to improve quality of life for men diagnosed with prostate and testicular cancer.

· Funded 16 community projects in some of the most at-risk populations across the US. Through a partnership with the Prevention Institute, the projects help us to continue building resilience and mental wellbeing in at-risk boys and men.

Movember is transforming the way research into men’s health happens, and the way health services help men. We are changing the face of men’s health, and saving men’s lives. And we’re not going to stop until we’ve fixed the crisis in men’s health. Join us in the fight today and sign up for your charity stream right here right now.
