Text: How to Clip Gameplay on PC

Whether you’re streaming or creating VODs of your gaming sessions, sharing clips of your gameplay is crucial to helping grow your community, but without the right tools, getting gameplay clips can be hard. Luckily, creating a clip of your gameplay or stream is extremely simple with Streamlabs Desktop’s clipping features. There are two ways to clip your gameplay for free within the software:

Replay Buffer

Replay Buffer automatically records up to the last two minutes of your stream and can also be configured to immediately start a replay for your viewers during your stream. Check out our guide on using Replay Buffer for more info.

Highlighter

Highlighter uses the Replay Buffer technology to automatically save your clips in Streamlabs Desktop so you can edit and use them later. Check out our full guide on creating a video with Highlighter.

How to Use Game Clips

With Streamlabs Desktop getting clips is the easy part. The most important part is using those clips to engage and grow your audience. There are so many things you can do with your gameplay clips, but having the right tools is important to keep your content from going stale. If you are a livestreamer, fresh clips and highlight reels will help you keep your channel previews up to date and you can also use them to share with your audience in preparation for a stream or a summation after a stream.

Once you have your Gameplay clips, there are many tools you can use to edit them and each are suited for different use cases.

  1. Highlighter is a tool that is easy and fast for minor edits like stitching clips together, adding transitions, trimming clips, adding/removing clips, and reordering clips. Once you are done editing, you can export your final video then optionally upload it directly to your YouTube channel.
  2. Intro Maker helps you create high-quality intro videos for your Twitch and YouTube clips with easy-to-use templates.
  3. Crossclip allows you to quickly take a Twitch Clip, YouTube link or an uploaded video and convert it into another format. You can add several different layers to capture separate aspect ratios and sections of your video and layer them together for the new format. You can see more about Crossclip here.
  4. Oslo is a more robust video editor with many options as well as the ability to collaborate with other users via comments.
