What was it about streaming that initially interested you and inspired you to give it a try?
I had done a handful of streams on smaller platforms a few years ago, but being a DJ it’s all about being with a crowd IRL. However, when everything shut down due to COVID, it was really out of necessity that I decided to start streaming consistently. In a really lonely time of quarantine, I wanted to hang out with people virtually and provide some good music.
What goals or aspirations would you like to achieve this year and in the future?
As a streamer? I’m not really sure. But streaming has broadened my reach and I’ve made really great connections with people that I never would have otherwise. So I hope as events start to come back (safely, of course) I get some new and exciting opportunities to play at clubs and festivals I’ve always wanted to! I definitely am going to keep grinding in the studio and put out more original music that I’m proud of — I’m still early on in my music career so I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
Were there other streamers that you looked up to and inspired you to start streaming?
Honestly, I never really watched live streams before the pandemic, so no one was really on my radar. But early on someone had shown me Scene of Action’s channel and it’s still one of the most insane music streaming setups I’ve ever seen!
Do you have any advice for new streamers entering the space?
Do your research! When I first started, I spent hours on YouTube learning about lighting techniques, camera parameters, overlay design, OBS tips, etc. At the end of the day you are supplying a product — what are people going to click on? What makes them want to come back? Also, be unique! Don’t copy what other streamers are doing, think about what makes you different and what you bring to the table.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
For me, it’s a moment to stop and reflect on the women who are pushing the boundaries — especially in the dance music industry. It’s obvious we need a LOT more inclusion and diversity in nightclubs, music studios, festival lineups, etc. Streaming has been a really great way for me to find some insanely talented women in the scene and I’m really looking forward to working with them in the future!
