Our Mission

Education is the right of every human being; we as human beings strive to learn new things. Unfortunately, some people do not have access to resources to facilitate education. This was, in many ways, worsened when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. Everything went online, and with it, the pandemic altered the effectiveness of education. As a result, online classes and courses became more expensive and required hardware, thus not giving everyone an equal opportunity to learn. In the last 30 years, technological skills have become crucial in any industry or line of work. It is an absolute necessity for the youth today to have the knowledge of working with technology. It is based on these ideals that Tech Savvy Youth was founded with the purpose of furthering student education.

In the thick of the pandemic, Vismay Patel was approached by a group of people to teach coding to a small group of kids. While teaching, he noticed how many students did not have access to the necessary resources. This experience is what led to the idea of founding Tech Savvy Youth: to provide access to learning for everyone across the world regardless of their background. So, in August 2020, before his freshman year at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington, Vismay started Tech Savvy Youth, a registered 501(C)3 non-profit organization with the purpose of creating fun, hands-on, and knowledgeable workshops that empower youth with the ability to code, build their own computers, or other tech skills for free.

Tech Savvy Youth students can sit at home and virtually learn coding languages such as Java, the basics of computer hardware, and other STEM skills. Based in Bellevue, a leading area in technology, the organization aims to create a global and supportive society that helps empower, teach, and support all students around the world to learn skills that will be necessary in the rapidly growing IT industry as well as the future.

Starting with Java and Python courses, Tech Savvy Youth later started offering classes such as Hardware Building, Video Production, Audio Production, and Music Production. Tech Savvy Youth also caters to the younger side with its K-5 Math Class, which aims at helping and furthering a student’s path in math. They do all this for free by recruiting high school student volunteers to teach different topics. This also allows for better communication between the instructors and the students of TSY by removing the barrier of age and allows the high school students to impact their community positively.

In October of 2021, Tech Savvy Youth had its first-ever in-person event where they organized a Hardware Building Event. Interested students signed up for the event for free to learn about the hardware and parts of a computer and how to assemble it. TSY obtained the parts, and the students built the computer themselves, giving them complete control over the hands-on experience. The computer was then donated to the Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club, another non-profit organization dedicated to introducing underserved and underrepresented youth to the world of aviation.

Tech Savvy Youth is currently in the process of planning more events for the future. However, to continue hosting these events, they require support from members and the community to keep going.

How can I help?

By creating a Streamlabs fundraiser and hosting a charity stream or simply just using our overlays, you will be helping us increase awareness about our programs and allow us to help more students.

A charity stream fundraiser that raises $250 can give Adobe licenses to 10 people for 1 month. Raising $750 can provide 1 computer to be sent to a student in need. Raising $1,000 allows us to help offer scholarships to outstanding students.

Tech Savvy Youth is funded entirely from donations, either directly by supporters, parents or through matching programs by companies like Microsoft and Amazon.

Here are some other ways you could help us continue teaching our students effectively.

  • Amazon! Whenever you shop on Amazon, please go to smile.amazon.com and shop from there, we get 0.5%, and you retain the same prices as the standard site! Please see Amazon’s website for more details.
  • Fred Meyer Community Rewards! We are pleased to announce that we are now in the Fred Meyer Rewards Program! Fred Meyer will donate a portion of your purchase to our organization at NO COST to you. To help us, please complete the steps here.

You can also donate through the website by PayPal.

If you have the resources, we urge you to donate to this cause to help enrich the minds of students across the world. By donating, you will also help foster a mushrooming global community of the coming age; an age of technological innovation, global connectivity, and equality of opportunity, fueled by the minds of today’s youth.
