My incredible journey with Street Group.
Hello! My name is Jelena and I’m working as a Junior Developer for Street Group. I started in September 2021 and this is my first experience working as a developer. And so far a very enjoyable experience I must say! Let me tell you a little bit more about myself.
I have never seen myself as a developer even though I was interested in coding since early childhood. I always thought it would be impossible for me to get into the industry as there are so many talented developers on the market. But when I saw the Street Group’s advertisement I knew I had to try. I would never forgive myself otherwise.
The main thing that attracted me was company values. I felt right from the moment I read this advertisement, that this is the right place for me. And I was right. Here, at Street Group, we do things passionately. We love the products we are working on. We dream big. And it leads to constant improvement and self-development. And I enjoy it a lot!
My role involves working on all the areas of the product: adding new features, fixing bugs, working with the user support team to provide excellent customer experience. As the member of a developer team I have all the possibilities to introduce my ideas and thoughts on any aspect of the product to the whole team at any moment. I found this opportunity to speak and be heard to be very important for a healthy teamwork. And it really says a lot about the working environment in Street Group. We have different perspectives, but we work together and every voice really matters.
Day to day work may vary as there are always new challenges and opportunities. Sometimes I can work on relatively small things all day, making minor changes but knowing that these changes are important for our customers and would make their lives easier. Other times I can spend several days creating some new feature from scratch. But no matter how big or small the task is, we stay creative and try to bring to the market the product we all can be proud of.
And the truth is I really am proud of my work. I’m proud to say that I’m part of Street Group. When I think of everything I’ve built in these nine months I am proud of every little thing. I can see how Street is evolving with time and how it’s getting bigger, more complex, offering more to the customers, and it makes me feel happy knowing I am among those responsible for all the positive changes. This surely is the thing I enjoy the most while working for Street Group. This, and having the dogs in the office.
Of course, there are also many other things to like: hybrid working scheme, flexible hours, L&D budget. And with the office based in the centre of Manchester the commuting is very easy. And I’m looking forward to getting my £1000 towards a holiday after my first year anniversary. But to tell you honestly all these nice things are not a game changer for me. I would be happy to work for Street Group even without them. I consider the nature of the work and the atmosphere at the workplace to be the main benefits.
Overall, I rate my decision to try and join Street Group as one of the most important decisions in my life, and I’m excited to continue this journey!
