Finding Mercy In What Seems Like A Merciless World

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.” – Psalm 51:1 (NIV)

There is no doubt that we live in hard times and in a world that often lacks Mercy and Compassion, but exactly what is mercy? The reason I add compassion to the mix is simply because mercy and compassion go hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other.

We may think of mercy as some grand gesture, but that isn’t always the case. Mercy can be as simple as correcting someone in a gentle way, rather than acting smug towards them, or as simple as helping them in a difficult situation.

Mercy is often seen as helping a child in need. Commercials that help feed children use compassion to reach you, and pray you have mercy as well. While there’s nothing wrong with that, unfortunately there are organizations doing this under false pretenses, so do your research.
